Late last night the Mets agreed to terms with David Wright on a contract that’s worth $138MM over eight years. Next up is R.A. Dickey, the defending NL Cy Young Award winner. Here's the latest:

UPDATE: Mets on verge of trading R.A. Dickey to Blue Jays
Craig Calcaterra Dec 15, 2012, 3:08 PM EST 3:04 PM: Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that as of this morning, seven players were involved in the deal, including four coming to the Mets and three going to the Blue Jays. Puma hears that the Jays want a catcher back and speculates that Josh Thole could be involved. He has a rapport with knuckleballer R.A. Dickey, so that would make sense. If that happens, it’s possible the Mets could take John Buck in the deal. Andy McCullough of the Newark Star-Ledger hears that Blue Jays prospect right-handers Noah Syndergaard and Aaron Sanchez have also been discussed. Those are two impressive prospects, so this deal could get a little crazy.

as much as i understand the long term implications of trading Dickey, the team will burn a lot of the good will they just got from the fans for signing David Wright long term. Dickey was the only bright spot for the mets last season, and trading him when he obviously wants to stay, as simply a "business" move, will piss off the fan base to no end.
so go ahead and trade him and watch the empty seats get even emptier for the next few years.

if they're getting D'arnaud, they're getting a stud catcher back though.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Eager for a new challenge and certainly a better chance to win, R.A. Dickey broke the news of his trade even before the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets.
A few minutes ahead of the teams announcing the seven-player swap Monday that sent the NL Cy Young winner to Toronto, he tweeted his thanks to Mets fans and added he was all set to pitch for the Blue Jays.

Yeah apparently they got some good pieces back. It's not like the Mets were gonna compete this year anyway. It's hard for me to think that Dickey will have anywhere near the success he did this year again anyway

Mixed emotions about this trade! R.A. Dickey won the Cy Young Award and got traded away but I doubt he would have been able to maintain what was done last year and like G-men stated they were not going to contend and the players in return are exciting.

everyone is so high on the catcher D'arnaud. ummmm we need to remember that he is coming off a PCL injury. he may never be the same as he was before the injury, and if that is the case, they basically traded a Cy Young winner for a double A pitcher, a broken down catcher, and a single A outfielder.
no winning for the mets for the next few years. and i bet Dickey will win at least 40 to 50 games in the next 3 seasons.
