The Blue Jays hire Tim Raines
Craig Calcaterra Jan 1, 2013, 7:15 AM EST Man, Toronto is signing everyone! The guys at Drunk Jays Fans say that the Jays have not had anyone in this position before. It seems to me that a base-running coach would be an awesome investment for any team because while speed is obviously important, so much about base-running is about skill. Reading pitchers’ moves and the like. Just look at how many super fast dudes have low stolen base percentages. In any event, it’ll be good to see Raines — a guy whose base-running skills are nearly unmatched in recent history — back with a major league team.

Tell ya, with the MLB average being 41% for extra bases taken, every team could use some caoching, since there doesn't appear to be much common sense, being used. 1639 outs on the bases last season. Base stealing percentage(not to be confused with baserunning) was 74%, which is right near the, rule of thumb 75%, required to help your team. Outs on the basepaths are my biggest peeve about the game. http://www.baseball-reference.com/pl...ti01-bat.shtml FWIW, Tim Raines XBT% was 50% for his career. His SB% was 85%.
