Knicks ^UPDATE: Melo suspended 1 game for Garnett incident

By Ian Begley | Special to ESPNNewYork.com

Carmelo Anthony approached the Celtics locker room after New York's loss to Boston on Monday and was screaming, MSG Network reported.

One witness to the incident confirmed that Anthony was involved in a postgame incident, but declined to elaborate.

"It was just a big commotion," one witness to the incident said. "It was like being in the school yard."

Knicks coach Mike Woodson declined to comment on the incident.

Celtics coach Doc Rivers told reporters that he didn't want to elaborate on the incident, but said he joked that he'd talk to reporters about the incident if it was the postseason, implying that he'd want Anthony to be suspended for the incident if the game held bigger implications.

Anthony, who shot 6-for-26 on the night, got into a confrontation with Kevin Garnett in the second half of the game.

Both players where whistled for a technical foul.

Anthony left the floor quickly after the game, declining to shake hands with the Celtics.

He also exited out of the tunnel that visiting players normally use to leave the floor.

Funny, I came here to say the same about KG.

On the other hand, you just can't do this if you're Melo. Allegedly KG told him that his wife tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios, which is hilarious, but not worth the overreaction and confrontation

Yeah, this is a real no-no by Melo. KG is like an big, annoying horsefly. He's not going to go away until you kill him, so to speak. If you get mad and start acting irrationally, you're falling right into his trap. I'd expect this from some young, hot-shot kid. Not from a guy that's been around the block.

KG is a punk too. But, what he does works for him. But that comment is hilarious.

Default Melo suspended 1 game for Garnett incident

By Ian Begley | ESPNNewYork.com

New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony has been suspended one game without pay for confronting Boston's Kevin Garnett in the arena tunnel, near the players' locker rooms, and in the parking garage following Monday's game against the Boston Celtics.

The NBA announced the suspension on Wednesday. Anthony will serve the suspension on Thursday when the Knicks take on the Indiana Pacers.

"There are no circumstances in which it is acceptable for a player to confront an opponent after a game," NBA executive vice president basketball operations Stu Jackson said in a statement. "Carmelo Anthony attempted to engage with Kevin Garnett multiple times after Monday's game and therefore a suspension was warranted."

Anthony has said that he did not believe he deserved to be suspended.

"If you just go off the actual facts of what happened, I don't think anything will happen," Anthony said.

After he and Garnett were called for technical fouls for jawing with one another in the closing minutes of Monday's game, Anthony approached Garnett at the Celtics' team bus. Madison Square Garden security, New York City Police officers, team security and even Knicks coach Mike Woodson intervened before the incident could escalate.

Anthony said Tuesday that he wanted to have a "one-on-one conversation" with Garnett after the Boston big man spewed a verbal insult at Anthony.

"It's certain things that you just don't say to men, another man," Anthony said Tuesday. "I felt that he crossed the line. Like I said, we're both at an understanding right now; we handled it the way we handled it. Nobody needs to know what was said behind closed doors. So that situation is handled."
