Terry Francona: Sox image-conscious

"They told us we didn't have any marketable players. We need some sexy guys," Epstein was quoted as saying.

Francona said of the ownership group: "I don't think they love baseball. I think they like baseball. ... It's still more of a toy or hobby for them."

Francona worked for ESPN in 2012. Cleveland hired him in October as its manager.

This is a little concerning. If that's the case then they had Theo Epstein by the puppet strings when he was making all those moves. The moves Ben Cherington is making don't really seem all that glamorous though. They seem like baseball decisions based on the market and the players clubhouse presence. How could Epstein succumb to this "image" general managing, but Cherington not? The owners HAVE to have seen some sort of light in this whole debacle.

The owners were damn wrong. Had they just re-signed Victor Martinez and Adrian Beltre, the team wouldn't have needed to have been marketable. Because the team would have simply been damn good. They just needed to add some pitching.

I doubt any Sox fans either doubt this or find this the least bit surprising. I've really soured on this group of clowns over the past couple of years and would fully welcome a new ownership group whenever Henry decides to cash in (which will probably be sooner than later).

Our owners have to be the worst/least liked in all of baseball.

The fact that they don't like or care about baseball is spot on. It was said that they are too wrapped up in their soccer to care about the Sox.
