Will the Lakers (20-25) make the playoffs?

This may be only the 2nd time in my tenure as a Laker fan that I've even had to consider this question. Also, one of my mantras is that the NBA regular season is fairly meaningless to the good teams. Well...for the 1st time since it was just Mamba with some clowns named Smush Parker & Kwame Brown, the Lakers are not (playing as) a good team.

Someone ran the historical stats of the Western Conference. Over the past 5 years, the average win total of the 8th seed has been 48 wins. The Lakers sure as heck won't get 48 wins. BUT...the teams in the West, not named Thunder, Clips, & Spurs are beating each other moreso than recent history. The Lakers are currently only 4 games behind Houston for the 8th slot and 5 games behind Utah for the 7th slot. So the playoff (as opposed to the Chip contending) hole really isn't very big. Therefore, with 36 games to go, I predict the "new-philosophy" Lakers will overtake one or both of those two good but not-so-great teams while the ones below them continue to out-suck the Lakers.

But no, I am not (now

) predicting the Lakers will get out of the 1st rd if they do manage to squeak in
