Question Who Wins? Outback Bowl: Michigan vs SC

Where: Tampa

Time/TV: 1 p.m. ET, ESPN

Both teams are battle-tested. The Wolverines have lost four games, but those four teams (Alabama, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Ohio State) have combined for four losses. South Carolina’s two losses came against SEC heavyweights Florida and LSU. Michigan senior Denard Robinson needs 86 yards to break the all-time rushing record for quarterbacks (4,480), but he could split time with Devin Gardner, who has started the past four games. Whoever is under center will have to account for South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, a game-wrecker who has 21½ tackles for loss and 13 sacks.

NFL prospect to watch: Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan. He will get a great test in pass protection from Clowney, a surefire top two pick in 2014. Lewan, a 6-8, 309-pound junior, can prove why he’s the second-best tackle prospect for 2013 after Texas A&M’s Luke Joeckel.

SN’s pick: South Carolina. Expect a tight game, as both teams rank in the top 20 in scoring defense. Will it be Robinson or Clowney who makes more game-changing plays? Our bet is Clowney, and South Carolina gets to 11 wins for the second consecutive season.

Instant replay: In the 2010 game, Northwestern and Auburn set the NCAA bowl record for total plays in a game, with 187. Auburn won, 38-35, in overtime.

I think South Carolina wins this one. I don't think Michigan will be able to move the ball very much, and the Gamecocks will be able to score enough to win.

Depends on how healthy Robinson is. I kept waiting for him to make a sneaky throw against Ohio State towards the end of the game...and if I were the defensive playcaller for the Cocks, I'd be on the watch for it too.

I think Michigan has the ability to beat SC, but I'm really hoping and think they lose.

I think everyone knows who I'll pick. But I'd say it's because of the current senior class's leadership. No class has won more games as a Gamecock than them. They are the first senior class to hold 3 wins over Georgia, 3 wins over Florida, 3 wins over Tennessee and 4 wins over Clemson. This senior class wants to win badly because they love the program and want that success to continue in the future. That would be why I'd pick South Carolina.

Denard is healthy and will play at RB, QB, and WR. They've been running a ton of new plays with him at the slot position. I think Michigan is definitely good enough to win this game. It'll come down to Lewan vs. Clowney and Borges vs. himself. If Borges doesn't completely screw Michigan over, which will probably happen, Michigan could and should win IMO. We'll see how it goes.
