First off, every writer has been taking this opportunity to take a shot at Lane Kiffin, when this is a calculated risk on a numbers game forced by the NCAA sanctions on USC.

What happened was a senior failed to graduate on time, thus keeping him till June. That spot that was going to open up was to be used on an Early Enrollee.

When you look at the early enrollee's that USC is expecting, Kylie Fitts seemed like the most logical choice to ask to enroll in the fall rather than the spring. He never pulled an offer and Fitts is still being strongly recruited by USC. In fact, Coach Orgeron was at Fitts' house Sunday night to explain the situation and Fitts decided to take another unofficial visit to USC on the Friday before signing day.

When I say calculated risk, it's more of the case of which of the EEs can you convince to stick around till the fall?

Su'a Cravens is the top safety and has a chance to start right away, you bring him in early.

Max Browne could be the starter, so you get him extra time.

Justin Davis is in an open battle for the backup running back spot (maybe even starter), you get him spring experience.

Chris Hawkins NEEDS extra time in the weight room.

Kenny Bigelow is from the North East, asking him to wait (not to mention he could start year one), you get him locked in ASAP.

Finally, Leon McQuay III would have bolted to FSU so quick if USC asked him to wait.

Kylie Fitts has a wrist injury that would have limited him during spring training anyway. Became the most logical person to ask to wait till the fall.

If the senior graduated on time, we wouldn't have had this conversation.
What do you mean a senior failed to graduate on time? Either he had a year of eligibility or he did not. And if he did, whether he graduated or not doesn't affect that, right?

USC was set to have enough spots open under the 75 player roster limit to take all of their early enrollees. Then a senior, who was supposed to graduate in December, thus taking him off of scholarship, didn't. So, it lowered the number of early enrollees that USC could take under the 75 limit to 6. Of course, they had to ask one kid to enroll in the fall (they had already done it to Eldridge Massington who then de-committed) and Fitts was the most logical of choices.

Yeah, this isn't really a big deal. It happens more often than you would imagine. It's just so happens, that the player involved, and his family are making a big stink about it.

I know, I know. It happens once and then it sticks with you forever. Just wait though, another storm is coming. A&M just had 9 early enrollees which puts them at the magic 25 number for NSD... but they are still in the mix for a few blue chip recruits, so someone is going to be asked to defer enrollment at College Station. And incidentally, I'd love to know how Georgia had room for 13 early enrollees. That's almost an entire scholarship class.

It's not even the family or player, they're over it. This is his high school coach (a Bruin fan), who is now burning bridges with a great program.

First, UGA only had 69 recruited scholarship players last year. So, Richt gave scholarships to senior walkons. We only signed 15 last year because we knew this class was loaded.
Although we have 13 EEs, you can only count 10 back in the 2012 class. Since we are so far under 85 scholarships, we can sign 25 for the 2013 class.
No players will be processed, no players will be grayshirted, and we will still be under 85 scholarships.

I wasn't trying to insinuate any wrong doing on Georgia's part, I've just never, ever, seen that many early enrollees.

Two were players who didn't qualify last year and went to Hargrave.
