Speaking as a former employee put into those situations, we hate them as much as you do.

"I'll take four Kid's Packs." (Mini box that includes popcorn, drink, an Airhead candy.)
"Alright, what do you want for the drinks?"
"Umm... Guys, GUYS! Pick out a drink!"

Two minutes later, the mom finally has all her kids looking at the options. A couple say their choice quietly to their mom. The other two show no evidence of ever deciding. The mom stands there smiling acting like I heard any of it. After a few more seconds, she gets it. Tells me the drinks.

"OK, now pick out the candy you want with it!"
"Actually, it only comes with an Airhead."
"What?"
"An Airhead." *points to sign*
"What's an Airhead?"
"Sort of taffy-like candy."

She ponders. Then has to rally the kids together again to contemplate. It's minutes before they decide to get both kid's packs and a candy each. Order finally finishes.

"Anything else?"
"Yes." (Because now she needs her stuff.)

By the time she finishes, another phantom kid pops up with the dad. She has to alter the order and add in another kid's pack/candy. By the time that's done, usually one of the kids has dumped something.

"Wait, can they get the slush thing for their drink?"
"No, only fountain drinks."
"Oh, why's that?"

FUCK. YOU.

I know that your story is most likely true, and I really think that woman should be required to work retail/service/etc.

Mine is also true. I had people behind me in line laughing when I blurted out loud..."Are you fucking kidding me?"

I can imagine. Made me laugh just thinking about it.

I don't know why it is this way, but I get way more annoyed with other people when I go to see a movie. It's like all the stupid people in town get together and figure out when I'm going so they can be there at the same time.
