NFL SJ Member Preview: Giants vs. Cowboys

For the first week of the season(and hopefully after), we reached out to some SJ Members for some keys to the game for their respective teams first matchup. With the season opening tonight when the defending Super Bowl champions play the Dallas Cowboys, myself and SoonerChuck gave our keys to success.

Quote:
- Keys to a Cowboy victory over defending champion Giants

I suppose I could go on & on about X & O's,match ups, schemes,& such, but it is really pretty simple folks.

offense:

1) Keep Romo upright
2) run the football effectively
3) no turnovers

defense:

1) Slow down the Eli to Cruz connection
2) stop the run
3) pressure Eli & cause some turnovers

Add in good special teams play & I believe Dallas has a good chance of defeating the Giants tomorrow night.
Quote:
For the defending champions to get the new season off on the right foot, here's some things they need to do.

-Give Eli time: At times, the Giants line can be great but they can also get pretty shaky. If he has time though, Eli can pick apart the Cowboys defense. Expect a lot of throws to Victor Cruz.

-Get the running game going: The running game was a struggle last year, but Ahmad Bradshaw is healthy now and with rookie David Wilson it's important to get the run game going in the first game.

-Pressure: It's pretty simple. We all know that the Cowboys O-Line is a weak point, while the Giants D-Line is a strong point. If they pressure Romo, he can get pretty shaky. It'll also help cover the Giants depleted secondary
Also, myself and Phenomenal TJ played out the game in Madden 13. It was a hard fought battle that came down to the end, but the Cowboys came away with the 27-24 victory.

The Cowboys defense is much improved and the offence is still a potent squad. I see no way the giants outscore the Boys.

If anything, I see it the other way haha. As you've said though, the play will do the talking tonight

Score predictions?

My household says 35-10 Giants

Isn't it something like 69% of SB winners win their first game the next season?

The last one to lose was the Broncos in '99. Although the Cowboys are 5-0 all time against the Giants in season openers.

As for a score prediction, I'll say 28-20 Giants.

I think the Cowboys may wind up being the better team as the season goes on, but I don't see the Giants losing this one.

I'll go NYG 21 Dallas 17

I think anyone that can't see the Cowboys as the obvious favorite in this game should not only be banned from SJ but tried for treason for picking against America's Team. But maybe that's just the homer in me talking.
