Breaking ^UPDATE: Sapp, Carter, Parcells lead 7-Man HOF Class

The Pro Football Hall of Fame selection committee is meeting in New Orleans today to select the Hall of Fame Class of 2013.

To be elected, a finalist must receive 80 percent of the vote.

A list of 15 modern-era finalists have been narrowed to 10: Offensive linemen Larry Allen and Jonathan Ogden; coach Bill Parcells; receivers Cris Carter and Andre Reed; running back Jerome Bettis, cornerback Aeneas Williams and defensive linemen Michael Strahan and Charles Haley.

There are also two senior nominees (former Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Oilers defensive tackle Curley Culp and former Green Bay Packers and Washington Redskins linebacker Dave Robinson.)

Yeah Strahan missed out. The first post is wrong

Quote:
After going out on top as a Super Bowl champion and collecting more sacks than all but four other men in NFL history, former Giants great Michael Strahan lived a charmed life in pro football.

But he will have to wait on the Hall of Fame.

Strahan made the cut to the final 10, selected by the Pro Football Hall of Fame voters Saturday in New Orleans but will not be part of the enshrinement weekend in Canton, Ohio, on Aug. 3.

Instead, Strahan's Hall of Fame moment won't happen this year.

During 15 seasons with the Giants after being drafted in the second round out of Texas Southern, Strahan became one of the most dominant pass rushers in NFL history.

His 22 1/2 sacks in 2001 are the most in a single season, and his 141 1/2 career sacks are the fifth-most ever in the NFL -- trailing only Bruce Smith (200), Reggie White (198), Kevin Greene (160) and Chris Doleman (150 1/2). Smith, White and Doleman all are already in the Hall of Fame; Greene was a finalist this year.

The case for Strahan's Hall of Fame candidacy included the fact that he also was considered one of the most well-rounded defensive ends, playing all three downs and being a force against the run as well as being able to rush the passer.

Moreover, he was beloved by many of his teammates -- something that was never more evident than during his final season. Despite holding out during training camp, Strahan's leadership throughout the 2007 season -- the Giants started 0-2, squeaked into the playoffs and then went on one of the great runs in postseason history to win Super Bowl XLII -- was a key.

That season was also instrumental for the relationship between Strahan and Giants coach Tom Coughlin.

“When I first met Coach Coughlin, it wasn’t a dislike. It was a hate,” Strahan says in the NFL Network’s “A Football Life” documentary on Coughlin.

Long at odds, the 2007 season and Super Bowl victory drew the two men together -- and Strahan has been one of Coughlin's prime cheerleaders since.

Since retiring, Strahan has become a fixture on television. He has been part of the Fox NFL Sunday pregame show since the start of the 2008 season and since September has been a co-host on the Kelly and Michael Show, joining Kelly Ripa on the morning talk show.

Parcells in, and the push for Strahan next year will be the perfect setting as the Super Bowl will be at Metlife Stadium, a chance for all us Giants fans to go nuts!!! Coughlin is a few years, get ready baby!!!

actually the first post is not wrong, it is the list of the 10 names that made the final cut, not the actual list of "winners"

First post was the 10 finalists.

Love that Allen and Carter got in. Ogden was a huge no brainer. As for the guys that missed out, they'll get in..I didn't look at any of the top 15 and thought of them as undeserving.
