Poor Japan...

I'm trying not to be too biased here, but I think it might be hard for Mexico to get out of their group. Everyone always thinks that the Italians are going to start declining... but they just don't. If Andres Pirlo is anything close to the form he had in the Euros last year, then it will be Brazil and Italy meeting Spain and Uruguay in the knockout rounds.

They may actually decline soon, though. Italy has one of the lowest birthrates in Europe, and Italian kids aren't playing "calcio" as much as in previous generations. Their heavily defensive style, however, will more than likely always keep them competitive.

Brazil defeats Japan 3-0. Neymar (3'), Paulinho (48'), and Jo (93') with the goals.

Ho hum.

Should have made it Italy vs Brazil for the opener, IMO.

I think 3-0 wasn't really the true story of that game. Japan threatened quite a bit in the first half and could have easily gotten at least one goal. Brazil looks a little sloppy in the back and could be easily opened up by a team with a little more firepower.

Having said that... that Neymar goal was absolutely beautiful...

Goals off the volley are more times than not highlight worthy.
