mock Official 2009 SJ Mock Draft updated 4/24

Official 2009 SJ Mock Draft

As heard on SJ Radio...

1. Detroit - Matt Stafford, QB, Georgia
Could have a deal in place any minute now...

2. St. Louis – Jason Smith, OT, Baylor
Need to replace Orlando Pace.

3. Kansas City - Aaron Curry, OLB, Wake Forest
Chiefs have many, many holes. Nothing would be a surprising pick here.

4. Seattle – Mark Sanchez, QB, Southern Cal
It’s about time they find an heir for Matt Hasselbeck.

5. Cleveland – Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech
If Braylon is traded then this is a no-brainer, as is it’s just good business to have a receiver that catches the ball.

6. Cincinnati – Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia
Best way to keep Carson Palmer healthy is to protect his blindside. Who’d have thought?

7. Oakland - Jeremy Maclin, WR, Mizzou
Al Davis likes speed. And what Al wants, Al gets. Just ask Lane Kiffin. That is if he can get his foot out of his mouth…

8. Jacksonville – Brian Orakpo, DE/OLB, Texas
Could play standing up or on the line. Regardless of where he starts, he usually ends the play somewhere around the quarterback.

9. Green Bay – B.J. Raji, DT, Boston College
Only legitimate nose tackle in the draft.

10. San Francisco – Aaron Maybin, DE/OLB, Penn State
The clock is running out on former first rounder Manny Lawson. Time to get some competition or a replacement.

11. Buffalo – Andre Smith, OT, Alabama
Although he has attitude problems, the Bills will overlook it to replace the newly departed Jason Peters.

12. Denver – Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU
Defense should be the recurring theme for the Bronco’s 2009 draft class.

13. Washington – Robert Ayers, DE, Tennessee
The Redskins should be trying, yet again, to find a defensive lineman in this draft.

14. New Orleans – Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State
When Jason David and Randall Gay are your starting corners, you should probably look to bring someone else in...

15. Houston – Brian Cushing, OLB, Southern Cal
Will help with the pathetic run defense and also contribute to the anemic pass rush.

16. San Diego – Chris “Beanie” Wells, RB, Ohio State
Uncertainty surround the running back position following the 2009 season, so the Chargers look to fill the need before it becomes a problem.

17. NY Jets – Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Maryland
While his speed is a huge plus, adding size the receiving corps is almost more important for the Jets.

18. Denver (f/CHI) – Everette Brown, DE/OLB, Florida State
Yet again, the Sportsjabber theme for the Broncos this year is “Bring in the defense or forever be known as Enver”.

19. Tampa – Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas State
Garcia is gone and Gruden didn't leave a whole lot else in the QB-cupboard to be developed for the future.

20. Detroit (f/DAL) – Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss
With the elite defensive talent off the board, Detroit would probably go offensive line.

21. Philadelphia – Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia
With Jason Peters on the way, the Eagles can concentrate on finding a complement for Westbrook.

22. Minnesota – Eben Britton, OT, Arizona
Britton has the versatility to play on either side and could start at right tackle the first day of training camp.

23. New England – Clay Matthews, OLB, Southern Cal
Matthews has the versatility that the Patriots covet and he’s still getting better.

24. Atlanta – Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Oklahoma State
The trade for Tony Gonzalez fell through and Pettigrew is probably the best player available at this point.

25. Miami – Vontae Davis, CB, Illinois
While receiver may be a bigger need, Parcells usually goes defense in the first round.

26. Baltimore – Rey Maualuga, ILB, Southern Cal
May have problems in coverage, but could be special in a 3-4 with an added bonus of learning the position from possibly the best ILB in NFL History.

27. Indianapolis – Peria Jerry, DT, Ole Miss
Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney are still an elite pass rushing duo, but the Colts still lack an intimidating force on the interior of the line.

28. Buffalo (f/CAR via PHI) – Jared Cook, TE, South Carolina
With the replacement for Jason Peters already found, the Bills can find another target for their emerging passing game.

29. New York Giants – Kenny Britt, WR, Rutgers
Britt can be the big receiver that replaces Plaxico. Being from New Jersey doesn’t hurt too much either.

30. Tennessee – Evander Hood, DT, Missouri
With the possibility of losing both Albert Haynesworth and Jevan Kearse, look for the Titans to bring in the best defensive lineman available.

31. Arizona – Donald Brown, RB, Connecticut
The Edge will likely be gone soon and while Tim Hightower performed admirably last season, Brown could be a future franchise back

32. Pittsburgh – Alex Mack, C, California
The Steelers lost some starters on the interior of their offensive line this offseason and Mack can fill any of those positions as needed.
